The Hellenic Initiative Canada (THIC) has launched the second run of its national fundraising campaign in support of the Centre for Visual Arts and Research (CVAR) in Nicosia, Cyprus, aiming to raise $50,000 CAD to expand youth education programs.
The campaign builds on the strong success of last year’s initiative, which raised over $104,000 CAD. THIC is calling on supporters across Canada to help fund programs that engage thousands of students annually through curriculum-accredited educational experiences focused on Cyprus’s history and cultural heritage.
Founded in 2014 by the Costas and Rita Severis Foundation, CVAR is a leading cultural institution dedicated to fostering historical awareness, critical thinking, and cross-cultural dialogue. Its educational programs, accredited by Cyprus’ Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth, reach more than 4,000 students each year.
CVAR’s work also resonates strongly with Canada’s long-standing role in Cyprus through peacekeeping. For decades, Canadian peacekeepers have contributed to stability on the island under the United Nations mission, and institutions like CVAR play a complementary role by promoting understanding, reconciliation, and shared historical awareness among younger generations.
All donations to the campaign are eligible for tax receipts and will be matched up to 25K, doubling their impact.
